These Thai Sloppy Joe Sliders offer a flavorful twist on the classic American sloppy joe, featuring a savory ground beef mixture with garlic, hoisin sauce, and a hint of sriracha, all served on sweet Hawaiian slider buns topped with crunchy broccoli slaw, peanuts, and green onions for a deliciously satisfying bite.

  • Total Time: 22 minutes
  • Yield: 8 sliders

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef 80/20
  • 2 Tbsp. minced garlic
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 Tbsp. low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp. rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp sriracha
  • 2 green onions sliced
  • 8 sweet Hawaiian slider buns
  • 1 cup broccoli slaw
  • 1 Tbsp. peanuts

Instructions

  1. Cook the beef. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and cook, stirring occasionally, until it’s well browned, about 5-6 minutes.
  2. Add aromatics and sauces. Stir in the minced garlic and sesame oil, followed by ketchup, hoisin sauce, water, low sodium soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, and sriracha. Mix everything well to combine.
  3. Simmer the mixture. Continue cooking the beef and sauce mixture, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens and coats the beef nicely, approximately 5-6 minutes.
  4. Toast the buns. Lightly toast the sweet Hawaiian slider buns to add a bit of crispness and warmth.
  5. Assemble the sliders. Spoon the Thai sloppy joe mixture onto each toasted bun, then top with broccoli slaw, sliced green onions, and sprinkle with peanuts for crunch and added flavor.

Notes

  • For a spicier heat level, add extra sriracha or some chopped fresh chili peppers.
  • To make this recipe gluten free, use gluten-free soy sauce and hoisin sauce alternatives.
  • Toast the buns on a skillet or in the oven for best results.
  • Broccoli slaw can be substituted with shredded cabbage or coleslaw mix if preferred.
  • Peanuts can be swapped for chopped cashews or omitted for a nut-free option.
