Total Time:20 minutes
Yield:2 servings
Ingredients
Bread
4 slices bread, preferably sourdough or whole grain
Cheese & Fruit
8 ounces brie cheese, sliced
1 medium apple, thinly sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
Condiments & Butter
1/2 cup cranberry sauce, homemade or store-bought
4 tablespoons butter, softened
1 tablespoon honey (optional for drizzling)
Fresh thyme (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
Prepare the Ingredients: Gather all the ingredients. Thinly slice the brie cheese and apple, and have the cranberry sauce ready to speed up the sandwich assembly.
Assemble the Sandwich: Spread softened butter on one side of each slice of bread. On the unbuttered side of two slices, layer the brie slices, apple slices, and a generous spoonful of cranberry sauce. Top with the remaining bread slices, buttered side facing out.
Grill the Sandwich: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place the sandwiches onto the skillet and cook for about 5 minutes on each side until the bread turns golden brown and crispy and the brie melts completely.
Serve and Garnish: Remove the sandwiches from the skillet once cooked. Optionally, drizzle honey over the top and sprinkle with fresh thyme for added flavor and aroma. Cut the sandwiches in half to serve.
Notes
Use sourdough or whole grain bread for the best texture and flavor profile.
Thinly slicing the apple ensures it heats through without becoming mushy.
Substitute cranberry sauce with fig jam or raspberry preserves for a different sweet note.
If you prefer a sharper flavor, try using aged brie or adding a sprinkle of black pepper.
Butter the bread generously on the outside to achieve a crispy, golden crust.
Drizzle honey and add fresh thyme just before serving to enhance the sweetness and aroma without overpowering the sandwich.
