A quick and delicious sandwich featuring the sweet and savory combination of prosciutto, fig jam, brie cheese, and Granny Smith apples on a fresh baguette, perfect for a satisfying snack or light meal.
Total Time:15 minutes
Yield:2 sandwiches
Ingredients
Bread and Spreads
1 fresh baguette
1/4 cup fig preserves
butter, enough to lightly spread (preferably unsalted Kerrygold butter)
Fillings
6-8 slices prosciutto (thinly sliced)
6-8 slices brie cheese
10-12 slices Granny Smith apple
salt, to taste
black pepper (freshly ground), to taste
Instructions
Prepare the Baguette: Cut the baguette in half, then slice each half lengthwise to create two long sandwich pieces, making a top and bottom piece for each sandwich.
Spread the Layers: Lightly spread butter on the cut sides of each baguette piece, then spread a generous layer of fig preserves over both top and bottom bread pieces for sweetness.
Add the Fillings: On the bottom piece, layer 5-6 slices of Granny Smith apple, followed by 3-4 slices of prosciutto, then 3-4 thick slices of brie cheese. Season with a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper. Place the top baguette piece to complete the sandwich. Repeat for the second sandwich.
Optional Grilling: For a warm, melted version, grill the sandwich in a panini press or skillet with gentle pressure until the bread is toasted and brie is slightly melted.
Serve and Enjoy: Slice each sandwich into smaller portions if desired and serve immediately.
Notes
Using thinly sliced prosciutto provides the best texture but thicker slices can be used if preferred.
If a panini press is unavailable, a skillet with a weighted spatula can be used for grilling the sandwich.
The Granny Smith apple adds a crisp tangy contrast; substitute with tart green apples if unavailable.
Adjust fig preserves quantity to taste for desired sweetness level.
