Delightful puff pastry apple roses with thinly sliced Fuji apples, cinnamon, and sugar baked to golden perfection. These elegant pastries make a charming dessert or snack, perfect for impressing guests with minimal effort.

  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings

Ingredients

Puff Pastry

  • 1 box (2 sheets) Pepperidge Farms puff pastry sheets

Apple Filling

  • 3 red apples (Fuji apples preferred)
  • ½ lemon, juice
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon powder
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted

Topping

  • Powdered sugar, optional for dusting

Instructions

  1. Prepare Oven and Tray: Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a muffin tray with nonstick spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Apples: Wash and halve the apples lengthwise, then carefully core them and slice thinly across the width, keeping the slices intact and the cut side down.
  3. Treat Apple Slices: Place the thin apple slices in a bowl, squeeze the juice of half a lemon over them to prevent browning, then sprinkle 1-2 teaspoons of sugar and a small pinch of cinnamon. Stir gently to coat, leaving remaining sugar and cinnamon aside.
  4. Prepare Puff Pastry: Melt the butter and brush it evenly over one side of each puff pastry sheet. Combine the remaining sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle it over the buttered side.
  5. Cut Puff Pastry: Cut each puff pastry sheet into six equal strips for a total of twelve strips.
  6. Assemble Roses: Lay a few apple slices along the length of each puff pastry strip, overlapping slightly, then fold the bottom half of the puff pastry over the apples to partially encase them.
  7. Roll into Roses: Carefully roll up each strip from one end to the other, shaping it into a rose form. Place each rose into the prepared muffin tray compartments.
  8. Bake: Place tray in the oven and bake for 30 minutes or until the pastry turns golden brown and the apples soften.
  9. Cool and Serve: Allow the apple roses to cool in the tray for 10 minutes before gently removing. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith if you prefer a less sweet balance.
  • Thin apple slices are crucial for pliability to prevent breakage when rolling.
  • Brush strips with extra melted butter to increase flakiness and browning if desired.
  • Let the roses cool before removing to maintain their shape.
  • Powdered sugar topping is optional but adds a lovely finishing touch and sweetness.
