Total Time:40 minutes
Yield:4 servings
Ingredients
Filling
10 ounces cooked, shredded chicken breast (about 2 cups)
4 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 tablespoon salted butter, softened
1/2 tablespoon dried chives
1/2 tablespoon dried minced onion
Salt and pepper to taste
Dough and Coating
1 can (8 ounces) refrigerated Pillsbury crescent roll dough
1/4 cup salted butter, melted
1/2 cup Italian breadcrumbs
Gravy
1 can (10 ounces) cream of chicken soup
1 packet (1 ounce) chicken gravy mix
3/4 cup water
Instructions
Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a baking sheet with non-stick spray and set aside.
Mix Filling Ingredients. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and 1 tablespoon of softened butter until smooth. Add the shredded chicken, dried chives, dried minced onion, and season with salt and pepper. Mix well to evenly combine.
Prepare Crescent Dough. Unroll the crescent dough and press together every two triangles to create one rectangle each, ensuring the perforations are sealed to prevent filling leakage. You will get 4 rectangles total.
Fill and Shape Pillows. Divide the chicken mixture evenly among the 4 crescent rectangles. Place the filling in the center of each rectangle. Fold each corner over the center to cover the filling entirely, pressing to seal and shaping into a ball. Repeat for all rectangles.
Coat Chicken Pillows. Dip each formed pillow into the melted butter, then roll and coat thoroughly in Italian breadcrumbs. Shake off any excess coating. Place each coated pillow onto the prepared baking sheet evenly spaced.
Bake Until Golden. Bake the pillows in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy on the outside.
Prepare Chicken Gravy. While baking, combine the cream of chicken soup, chicken gravy mix packet, and water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to low and simmer gently until the pillows are done baking.
Serve and Enjoy. Once baked, serve each chicken pillow drizzled or dipped with the hot cream of chicken gravy. Enjoy this comforting and savory dish immediately.
Notes
Ensure the crescent dough perforations are well sealed to avoid the filling leaking out during baking.
For extra crispiness, you can broil the pillows for 1-2 minutes at the end of baking, watching carefully to prevent burning.
If fresh herbs are preferred, substitute dried chives and minced onion with finely chopped fresh chives and onions adjusting to taste.
Leftover pillows can be refrigerated and reheated in the oven to maintain crispness.
Use refrigerated crescent dough for convenience, but puff pastry could be an alternative for a flakier texture.
