  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

Breadcrumb Ingredients

  • 3 Tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Dip Ingredients

  • 16 ounce jar cocktail onions, drained well
  • 8 ounce block cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 Tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 Tablespoon white granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon horseradish
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon oregano
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

Instructions

  1. Prepare Onions: Chop the 16 ounce jar of cocktail onions, drained well, into smaller bite-size pieces and set them aside.
  2. Make Breadcrumbs: In a skillet over medium heat, melt 3 Tablespoons unsalted butter. Once melted, add 1 cup panko breadcrumbs, ½ teaspoon onion powder, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon paprika, ½ teaspoon black pepper, and ¼ teaspoon salt. Stir continuously until the breadcrumbs turn golden brown, then remove from heat and transfer half of the breadcrumbs to a bowl.
  3. Mix Dip Ingredients: To the bowl with half the breadcrumbs, add 8 ounce softened cream cheese, 1 cup sour cream, ½ cup mayonnaise, 2 Tablespoons ketchup, 1 Tablespoon white granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon horseradish, ½ teaspoon onion powder, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon paprika, ½ teaspoon oregano, ½ teaspoon black pepper, ¼ teaspoon salt, ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional), 1 teaspoon dried parsley, and the chopped cocktail onions. Use a hand mixer to combine all the ingredients thoroughly.
  4. Chill and Serve: Transfer the blended dip to a serving bowl. If not serving immediately, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate. Just before serving, top the dip with the remaining toasted breadcrumbs and a sprinkle of extra dried parsley for garnish.

Notes

  • Ensure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature for easier mixing and a smoother dip texture.
  • For a spicier kick, increase the cayenne pepper slightly or add a dash of hot sauce.
  • Use panko breadcrumbs for a lighter, crunchier topping; regular breadcrumbs will make it denser.
  • If you prefer a milder flavor, reduce or omit the horseradish and cayenne pepper.
  • This dip can be prepared a day ahead; just add the breadcrumbs before serving to keep them crisp.
  • Serve with crackers, tortilla chips, or fresh vegetable sticks for dipping.
